Materials: Red heart Yarn 3 colors of your choosing, I crochet hook, and darning needle.
SL = Slip Stitch
SC = Single Crochet
CH = Chain
DC = Double Crochet
SLO = Slip Stitch Only
1Granny Motif: Black
Base: Ch 5, SL to 1st Ch made to form ring, turn.
Rnd 1: CH 3, Working in ring:2 DC, CH3, (3 DC, Ch 3) 3 times, SL to 1st Dc made, Tie off, Hide string..
CC to White
Rnd 2: Connect to a ch 3 sp: In Ch 3 Sp (CH3, 2 DC), [CH 2 Sk 3 Dc sps, In next CH 3 sp ( 3 DC, CH 3, 3 DC)]3 times, Ch 2 SK 3 DC sps, In 1st CH 3 sp ( 3 DC, CH 3) SL to 1st DC made, Tie off, Hide String.
CC to Red
Rnd 3: Connect to CH 3 Corner sp: In CH 3 sp( Ch 3, 2 DC), CH 2, Sk 3 DC sps, 3 DC in CH 2 sp, CH 2, SK 3 DC sps, [ In ch 3 sp (3 Dc, Ch 3, 3 Dc), Ch 2, Sk 3 Dc sps, 3 Dc in ch 2 sp, CH 2, Sk 3 Dc sps] 3 times, In 1st Ch 3 sp ( 3 DC, Ch 3), Sl to 1st Dc made, Tie off, Hide string.
Make 4 Granny Motifs
Take 2 Motifs and sew together with darning needle and red yarn.
SC evenly around the perimeter of the 2 granny squares.
Rep with the other two Granny Squares.
Middle Motif
Base: Ch 31
Row 1: Dc in 3rd Ch from hook, *3 DC, Ch 3, Sk 3 sps, Rep from * across, End with 4 Dc, Turn.
Row 2: Ch 6, Sk to 1st Ch 3 sp, *3 Dc in Ch 3 sp, Ch 3, Sk 3 Dc sps, Rep from * across, Dc in last sp, turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, * 3 Dc in 1st Ch 3 sp, Ch 3, Sk 3 Dc sps, Rep from * across, End with 4 Dc in last Ch 3 sp, Turn
Row 4-14: rep row 2 and 3.
Row 15: Ch 1, SC, * 3 SC in Ch 3 sp, 3 SC, Rep from * across to corner sp, 8 SC in Ch 6 corner sp, 26 SC down side, 3 SC in corner sp, 25 SC across bottom, 3 Sc in corner sp, 29 SC up the side, SL to 1st SC made, Tie off hide string.
Sew the 2 granny motifs to the center motif.
With Like Colors: SLO around entire placemat.
