Cute and Stylish! These mittens are for a 6-8 year old. Keep your Kids hands warm with mittens this winter. Don’t worry about a mitten getting lost you can always make another matching one no problem.

 

Materials: Caron Yarn Simply Soft Color – Bone and Pink, 5 Sock Knitting Needles, and a Darning Needle.

 

K = Knit

P = Purl

P2tog = Purl two together

K2tog = Knit two together

YO = Yarn Over

PSSO = Pass Slip Stitch Over

 

With Bone Color Cast on 40 sts

Separate 40 sts onto 4 needles by doing the follow:

 

Rnd 1: With 1st Needle: *K1, P1, Rep from * on the 1st 10 sts, Take 2nd Needle and *K1, P1 Rep next 10 sts, Take 3rd Needle *K1, P1, Rep from * on the next 10 sts, Take 4th Needle and *K1, P1, Rep last 10 sts.

 

Rnd 2: (Place Marker and Do not turn work, work in spiral fashion) *K1, P1, Rep Ribbed Stitch around.

Rnd 3-13: * K1, P1, Rep around.

 

Switch to Pink:

Rnd 14-15: K40

Rnd 16: K1, *Slip 1 as if to Prul, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K2, Rep from * around, End with K1.

Rnd 17: K40.

Rnd 18 -21: Rep Rnds 16 and 17.

 

Swith to Bone:

Row 22: K1, *Slip 1 as if to Prul, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K2, Rep from * around, End with K1, Turn work for next row. This will give you a hole for the thumb.

Row 23: P40, Turn work for next row.

Row24-29: Repeat Rows 22-23.

 

Switch to Pink:

Rnds 30-38: Rep Rnds 16 and 17. (Do not turn your work working in spiral fashion).

 

Switch to Bone:

Rnds 38-44: Rep Rnds 16 and 17.

Rnd45: K1, P2tog, *K2, Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, Rep 2 times from*, K2, K2tog, K2, P2tog, *K2, Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, rep 2 times from* K2, K2tog, K1

Rnd 46: K36.

 

Switch to Pink:

Rnd 47: K1, P2tog, K1 * Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K2, Rep 1 time from*, Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K1, K2tog, K2, P2tog, K1, * Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K2, Rep 1 time from*, Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K1, K2tog, K1.

Rnd 48: K32.

Rnd 49: K1, P2tog, * Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K2, Rep 1 time from*, Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K2tog, K2, P2tog, * Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K2 Rep 1 time from*, Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K2tog, K1

Rnd 50: K28.

Rnd 51: K1, P2tog, K3, Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K3, K2tog, K2, P2tog, K3, Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K3, K2tog, K1.

Rnd 52: K24

Rnd53: K1, P2tog, Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K2, K2tog, K2, P2tog, K2, Slip 1 as if to Purl, K1, YO, PSSO both the Knit st and the YO, K2, K2tog, K1.

Rnd 54: K20, Cut yarn leaving a long tail.

Put the 20 stitchs onto two needles evenly, 10 sts on one and 10 sts on the other.

Sew the Mitten shut by:

 

Attaching a darning needle to the end of the tail, and close opening in four repeated steps

1st Insert the Darning needle through 1st st on front needle as if to knit, pull yarn tight and slip the st off the needle.

2nd: Insert Darning needle through the 2nd st on from needle as to purl. Pull yarn tight and leave this st on needle.

3rd: Insert Darning needle through 1st st on the back needle as to purl, pull yarn tight and slip the st off the needle.

4th: Insert Darning needle through 2nd st on the back needle as to knit, pull yarn tight and leave this st on needle.

 

Repeat the four steps until glove is closed.

 

Thumb

Pick up 8 stitches along each side of thumb hole, 16 stitches in all. Take each side and separate onto two needles. So you will have four needles with four sts on each.

Rnd 1-9: K16 (Do not turn work, work in Spiral fashion).

Rnd10: *K1, P2tog, K2, K2tog, K 1, Rep 1 time from*.

Rnd 11: K12.

Rnd 12: *K1, P2tog, K2tog, K1, rep 1 time from*.

 

Put remaining 8 stitches onto 2 needles evenly, 4 on each.

 

Cut long tail, and close by these four steps:

Attaching a darning needle to the end of the tail, and close opening in four repeated steps

1st Insert the Darning needle through 1st st on front needle as if to knit, pull yarn tight and slip the st off the needle.

2nd: Insert Darning needle through the 2nd st on from needle as to purl. Pull yarn tight and leave this st on needle.

3rd: Insert Darning needle through 1st st on the back needle as to purl, pull yarn tight and slip the st off the needle.

4th: Insert Darning needle through 2nd st on the back needle as to knit, pull yarn tight and leave this st on needle.

 

Make sure to hide all your strings well.

Don’t forget to make a matching glove for making just one will not do! 😉
